Perched atop a hill overlooking Spring Park Bay, the hotel's name, "Del Otero," translates from Spanish as "of the hill," aptly describing its elevated position . The 50-room hotel featured expansive verandas, two large dining rooms, and panoramic views of the lake, attracting guests who arrived by train, steamboat, or carriage.

Originally built by George F. Hopkins, the hotel changed hands in 1906 when it was sold to George F. Hopkins and Company. It continued to operate under various proprietors until its destruction by fire on July 4, 1945 . Today, the site is occupied by the Mist Condominiums, but the legacy of Hotel Del Otero remains a cherished chapter in the history of Lake Minnetonka's resort era.
